Thursday Talks 2026: recordings now available
|

The Thursday Talks 2026 webinar series, jointly organised by the RE-Source bio community and Biorefine Cluster Europe, has now concluded. Over the past six months, the series brought together experts and stakeholders to explore innovative developments in the circular bioeconomy.
All recordings are now available on the Biorefine Cluster Europe YouTube channel, covering topics including biorefinery innovation, biomass valorisation, regional collaboration and tools supporting the transition towards a sustainable bio-based economy.

FUELGAE Highlights Sustainable Fuel Solutions at KOS 2026
|

The FUELGAE project took part in KOS 2026, the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Kos, Greece, which brought together 950 participants, 550 oral presentations and 192 poster presentations from the global circular economy community.
As part of the programme, FUELGAE hosted a workshop on converting CO₂ and waste streams into scalable, zero-waste advanced fuels, showcasing innovations in microalgae cultivation, photobioreactors, digital monitoring and sustainable fuel production. The workshop also brought together the CRONUS, ALGAESOL and ICARUS projects for a panel discussion on the challenges of scaling up sustainable fuels, particularly for hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation.
The participating projects will now work on a joint policy brief with recommendations for policymakers, industry and funding bodies on the future of sustainable fuels and circular carbon value chains in Europe.

HarvRESt Publishes Catalogue of 33 Renewable Energy Business Models
|
|
|
The HarvRESt project has published a new Business Model Catalogue showcasing 33 ways European farms can generate value from renewable energy, including agrivoltaics, biogas, on-farm energy use and energy services.
The catalogue highlights both promising opportunities and key barriers to adoption, with permitting identified as one of the main challenges. Its findings will support the development of HarvRESt's Decision Support System, helping farmers identify suitable renewable energy business models for their farms.

FOLOU Publishes Common Methodology for Food Loss Quantification
|
|
|
The FOLOU project has contributed to the publication of CWA 18410:2026, a CEN Workshop Agreement providing a common methodology for quantifying food loss at the primary production level. Developed through collaboration between experts and stakeholders, the methodology aims to make food-loss measurement more consistent, comparable and reliable across different sectors and production systems.
The CWA provides a practical framework covering measurement planning, data collection and the extrapolation of results from individual farms or production sites to wider geographical scales. It is intended to support farmers, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders in strengthening efforts to prevent and reduce food loss.

LUCRA Tackles Fermentation Bottlenecks with Electrochemistry

The LUCRA project has published a new press release highlighting its innovative approach to producing succinic acid from organic waste streams and woody residues.
By combining fermentation with electrochemical technology, LUCRA aims to overcome key bottlenecks in conventional succinic acid production while reducing chemical use and waste generation. The approach could contribute to more sustainable and circular production of this valuable bio-based chemical.

From Waste to Field: LANDFEED Advances Bio-based Fertiliser Innovation

As the project marks its second year, LANDFEED reports significant progress across its five European use cases, turning HORECA, animal, olive, dairy, and multi-waste streams into bio-based fertilisers and biostimulants. From pilot-scale fermentation in Spain to a fully commissioned biorefinery in Greece, the project's partners are moving steadily from lab-scale results towards field trials and market-ready solutions.

P2GreeN Final Conference
7 October 2026 - Brussels, Belgium
The P2GreeN project will hold its final conference, “Advancing Circular Sanitation from Demonstration to Market Uptake,” on 7 October in Brussels. The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, wastewater operators and agri-food professionals to discuss the project's demonstration results and the next steps for scaling up circular sanitation.
The programme will feature expert panels on pilot technologies, legislative and governance challenges, and pathways towards upscaling, followed by networking opportunities. The event will also address the role of circular sanitation in the context of the EU Circular Economy Act.

bioSOILUTIONS & NBSOIL Joint Final Conference - Save the date
28 - 29 October 2026 - Brussels, Belgium
The bioSOILUTIONS and NBSOIL Horizon Europe projects will join forces for their final conference, bringing together stakeholders working towards healthier soils through complementary approaches. While bioSOILUTIONS focuses on developing innovative soil improvers from biowaste, NBSOIL supports soil advisors in putting nature-based solutions into practice.
The two-day event will feature dedicated sessions for each project, joint sessions for exchange and collaboration, as well as a networking and exhibition area. Projects and initiatives interested in showcasing their results or getting involved are invited to participate.

FOLOU Final event - Save the date
30 October 2026 - Barcelona, Spain
The FOLOU project will conclude with its final event in Barcelona on 30 October, bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders to showcase the project’s key achievements and discuss the future of food loss prevention and reduction in primary production.
The event will feature presentations of FOLOU’s main results, a multi-stakeholder roundtable, and a policy discussion on the next steps, challenges and opportunities for reducing food loss.
