ECHOES OF THE CONGRESS

National Bioeconomic Congress

Bioeconomy as a path to a sustainable future

The third National Bioeconomy Congress , organized by BIOEAST HUB CR in cooperation with the Technology Center Prague, took place in Prague on December 11, 2025. This year's edition was in the spirit of the National Action Plan for the Support of the Bioeconomy and the Action Plan for the Support of the Bioeconomy within the Framework of the Future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) .

The Congress offered two main parts:

  • The strategic block on bioeconomy priorities presented the results of an extensive survey among the professional public focused on national priorities in the field of bioeconomy, which confirmed in particular the importance of supporting research and innovation, the development of regional value chains, education and the efficient use of biological resources. The priorities of the new European strategy for bioeconomy were presented  in reflection of national priorities. Significant similarities were shown  in the approach of how the European Commission wants to promote the bioeconomy and in the requirements of national stakeholders. The new European strategy for the bioeconomy and funding options through Horizon Europe programs , national resources and  RIS3 strategies were also discussed .
  • The panel discussion from strategies to practice emphasized the need to link strategies with practice, support for regions , a clear legislative framework and systematic education in the field of sustainable behavior from an early age . There was also an appeal to connect the bioeconomy with modern technologies, including artificial intelligence. The discussion resonated with agreement on the need for a clear legislative framework, strengthening the role of regional development agencies, support for investors (including tax instruments and education) and restoring trust between industrial enterprises and research organizations.

The afternoon session was dedicated  to practical examples and networking activities . Participants learned about international projects that can be joined through BIOEAST HUB, as well as innovative solutions focused on sustainable production and digitalization, agroecological transformation of agriculture, biodiversity protection, land and landscape reclamation, energy synergies, and natural solutions in the field of ecosystem revitalization, as well as GreenWool products.

The main message of the congress:  the path to a sustainable future leads through education, cooperation, innovation and the courage to change established practices. The bioeconomy is becoming a pillar of regional development and stability of the Czech economy, education, research and development are key tools for implementation. Among the partners supporting education in the field of bioeconomy is the   BIOEAST UniNet network , which BIOEAST HUB CR founded in 2022 in Prague at a conference  organized as part of the Czech presidency of the EU.
